The Phuket Heroines Monument is one of the most famous and loved landmarks on the island, depicting an epic battle and victory against Burmese invaders in 1785, which is of great historical importance to Thai people. The monument and adjoining Victory Park is set to receive more than 42 million THB in an attempt to revamp and refurbish the landmark.
Located near Bann Riang in Thepkrasattri, the Victory Park site is currently a bare field expect for the nine bronze statues of the Phuket Heroines. The revamp and landscaping will start in May, which was recently confirmed by Watcharin Patomwatthanapong, Chief Administrative Officer of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation (PPAO), who said, “We have a budget B42 million to improve the landscaping at the entrance and elsewhere at the 10 rai park. The plans have already been drawn up and include new gardens, a healthy zone for exercise, new toilet blocks and a water-pump station to help clear any floodwaters”.
There will also be a further 300,000 THB spent on the installation of 2 new alters to place offerings in honor of the Heroines.
The new revamp will give this historical monument the respect it deserves, while at the same time cleaning up the area and making it more accessible and inviting to visitors, both foreign and local.
