Although it’s been a tough couple of months for the Thailand tourism scene, it was great news to hear that Phuket and Phang Nga enjoyed more than 4,000 tourists per day during March, said the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The head of the Phuket office responsible for tourism promotion said that the boom over last month has seen hotel occupancy in the two regions reach 80-90% on average, which is excellent news.
The director of the TAT Phuket office, Ms Anoma Wongyai, said that both areas had quite a boost in both domestic and international visitors throughout the month. She noted that the national parks throughout the region have been very crowded over the past month, especially with visitors from Russia, China, South Korea, Scandinavia, England and other European locations.
“We (Phuket and Phang Nga] are definitely busier than usual, and operators in the tourism industry – hotels, restaurants and tour boat companies – have certainly enjoyed increased income during the start of the [Thai] summer,” she Ms Anoma.
