The Songkran Water Festival to celebrate Thai New Year is held on 13 April for 24 hours. This has to be the biggest annual water fight in the world, and it’s just around the corner, so it’s either arm yourself to the teeth with all manner of water pump-action pistols and contraptions or stock up with enough supplies to get you through.
For those who don’t know, you will not be able to get around Phuket for most parts of the 12th and 13th without getting wet. So when venturing out for the day, don’t wear your designer clothes and definitely keep your belongings, especially mobile phones in a water tight bag because you will get wet. But in honesty, it’s best to leave personal belongings to a minimum over Songkran.
Excitement on Phuket Island has now reached fever pitch with Songkran just days away. Thousands and thousands of holidaymakers are coming to the island just for the New Year celebrations so it’s a busy time for business owners and all Phuket’s residents.
Have a happy and safe Songkran Water Festival 2013!
