Attracting the biggest sporting events in the world is the desire of every country, city, town and village, and no one can deny that Formula 1 motor racing is one of the biggest and most glamorous sporting events in the world. It has been documented in recent times that Thailand is to host its first Formula 1 race, originally planned for Bangkok as the obvious choice; however, Phuket might be in the running to host the race.
Concerns about political protests in Bangkok have forced the organizers of the race to consider moving the event to another province that has the facilities and infrastructure to hold an event of this magnitude, said the Tourism and Sports Minister, Somsak Phurisisak.
Those words from the minister is definitely good news for Phuket, although other areas across the nations such as Nakhon Ratchasima and Khon Kaen are also in the mix.
The new venue would have to be confirmed by the International Motoring Federation (FIA) before any decision could be announced.
“We may have to cancel the proposed Grand Prix,” Said Somsak.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope Thailand can keep the F1 race in any form, although we would be extremely pleased if Phuket gets the go ahead.
