In Phuket we have loads of attractions and activities that give people who live here or come for a holiday plenty of things to do. We have beaches, temples, bars by the boatload, restaurants, a zoo, aquarium, shopping centers and basically everything else you can think of. We don’t have a big water park, I hear you say! Well, that is not entirely true because one is currently being constructed.
By the beginning of next year, we will have a 40-rai water park, named Phuket Aquapark, located in Kathu at the Bangwad Dam.
The park is the brainchild of a group of Hungarian and Polish investors are seeking to attract 3,000 visitors per day to the project, which will cost 800 million THB to construct. On the park there will be rides and pools that cover an expansive 6,000sqm.
“The park will certainly be open by Songkran next year,” said Levente Perjesi, the Hungarian Director of the company that is constructing Aquapark. “We would like Thai people to enjoy this Thai celebration [at the park]. We started the idea in 2009 but we had to suspend it because of political and financial problems. We restarted in June this year.”
It sounds like great news for locals and tourists alike, and if constructed correctly could become one of the most popular attractions on the island.
Levente Perjesi finished off by saying “The project will offer a wide variety of attractions, with more than 20 ultimate water rides and six pools.”
