Just when you thought the Vegetarian Festivities had done for another year, a special 99-Year vegetarian festival is going to be hosted in Phuket at their famous Chinese Shrines from the 24th October until the 1st November. The special festival is to mark the rare occasion of two sets of nine months in the same year, according to the Chinese lunar calendar, which only happens every 99 years.
Nisit Jansomwong, the Phuket Governor, said on Monday that a few local dignitaries would be in attendance for the special festival, which will be held in honor of His Majesty the King of Thailand. As part of the auspicious numerology of the event, 99,999 signatures will be garnered, well-wishing towards His Majesty.
During the festival, there are many events planned such as street procession on the 29th Oct in Cherngtalay, and on 31st Oct from Kathu Shrine. There will also be a few smaller ceremonies held at Juy Tui, Baan Keang, Mai Khow, Chalong, Khow Rang, Baan don, and Meang Mai shrines.
