Great news coming in today reported by The Phuket News that the central Government has approved a budget of 240 million THB for the construction of a passenger jetty at Phuket International Airport. The airport has come in for lots of criticism over the past couple of years because it is not currently big enough to handle the large increase of international and domestic arrivals.
The jetty will ensure that arrivals to the airport will be able to board directly onto a boat on arrival and be sailed off to where they are staying on the island.
An environmental impact assessment (EIA) report is currently being conducted on the site, said Phuripat Theerakulpisut, the Director of the Phuket Marine Office, which is the first stage before planning permission is sought.
Khun Phuripat could hardly contain his excitement by saying, “It will help to reduce traffic [on Phuket’s roads] and solve the problems of airport taxis. It will run to an exact schedule and will cut journey times, and tourists can enjoy the sea view while travelling to their hotels.”
It seems like a great idea where visitors to the island will benefit the most, which is the way it should be.
