As we have seen time and time again, the Thailand tourism industry is extremely robust and even continues to perform amidst downturns and market changes. Doom is regularly predicted for the industry but it keeps going from strength to strength. The Thailand tourism scene recently ranked high in a survey conducted by MasterCard with Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya bolstering our image in the Asia-Pacific market.
The 3 above-mentioned destinations ranked extremely high in the MasterCard Asia Pacific Destinations Index 2015 and Euromonitor International Top 100 City Destinations Rankings.
Bangkok came the highest in Thailand in the first MasterCard Asia Pacific destination list for international travelers, with 21.9 million international visitors in 2015, which shows growth of almost 30% over the past year.
Phuket came in with 9.3 million international overnight visitors, which is over 15% growth on last year, while Pattaya came in with 8.1 million, showing growth of 10%.
The MasterCard survey was judged by international visitor figures, as opposed to groups of reviewers, so is purely a figure based survey.
Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Dr Yuthasak Supasorn , finished off by saying, “We are honoured to be recognised by two of the world’s most prestigious organisations. Despite the challenges we had to go through in 2015, global travellers remain confident in our country and made a decision to make Thailand their travel destination.”
