Phuket, Thailand is an amazing place to live, sun sea, sand and the other “S” we are hearing so much about nowadays, yes, you guessed it; “Security”! Are you fit for Phuket Island life?
This all makes for a great lifestyle, but what good is this if you haven’t got your health? When I was a kid, our postman used to say, “you can’t enjoy your wealth without your health” And he should know, he was the smartest, fittest and poorest guy on our street, always smiling, even in the rain!
There are two very distinct sides to Phuket life where foreigners are faced with on arrival, you could walk into a bar at 10 am and not leave until you fall backward off your barstool many hours later, or you could embrace the clean living and fresh air the island presents to you all year round, and I’ve heard some incredible stories of both from Phuket residences.
Fitness and well-being is now everywhere on Phuket, yes, spas and massage have been here since Frankie said: “Relax”. The south of the island, Chalong, Rawai and Nai Harn were and still are the Muay Thai Mecca of the world and I don’t think that’s too much of an exaggeration. The world’s best professional fighters come here to train, heal-up, lose weight and relax. Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) gyms are popping up all over the island, but they are still mainly concentrated in the south.
Soi Tad-Led (The Soi) in Chalong, is a road dedicated to Fitness and Fight Camps. There is nothing like it in the world. Every morning, afternoon and evening men and women, from all walks of life, all shapes and sizes are out run along the road, passed some of the best gyms in the world, Tiger Muay Thai, Phuket Top Team, Unit 27, Titan Gym.
The road is lined with businesses servicing each other and they are all contact in some way, shape or form. Guesthouses and small hotels, coffee shops and small restaurants selling organic coffee, avocado & goats cheese salads etc, MMA gyms, Crossfit gyms, yoga studios, massage shops, nail bars, protein shake huts, sports clothing shops, blood-work & homeopathic clinics. It’s the world’s best example of synergy at work.
I have had firsthand experience of people working out down there. These guys and girls are so healthy they make me sick (see what I did there?). The worst part is, they are all super friendly and accommodating. The camaraderie is visible everywhere. Ordinary people doing their own thing, next to possible champions or future champions of their chosen sport, there is nowhere in the world like this.

I could go on but I’m feeling a little tired and in need of organic bee pollen, chlorophyll and macadamia-nut oil smoothie. I’ll leave you with a few interesting links you may like to look at.
